MacHall injunction result delayed until late July

By Scott Strasser, June 30 2016 —

The Court of Queen’s Bench judge presiding over the MacHall injunction application has delayed her verdict on who will operate MacHall for the foreseeable future.

On June 29, the University of Calgary Students’ Union was informed that Justice Kim D. Nixon’s decision is delayed until mid to late July.

“This is just the first step of many in a long process about the dispute of ownership over MacHall,” SU president Stephan Guscott said. “Since the injunction is delayed, we’re going to have to be patient.”

The SU seeks an injunction to retain operation of MacHall under the currently extended 1999 License of Occupation, Operation and Management Agreement (LOOMA) for the duration of their ongoing lawsuit with University of Calgary administration over MacHall’s ownership.

The SU and U of C went to court twice this spring. Justice Nixon originally said she would have the decision by the end of June.

The SU will continue to manage MacHall under the LOOMA in the interim.
