Re: "Terror's in the name," September 9, 2004
The population of Beslan is mostly Muslim in its origin so many children in the school were Muslims. The Russian media tried to hide this important fact. This isn't a question of Islam because Chechenians as well as other Muslim ethnic groups who live in the south part of Russia struggle against Russian rule.
For information I may note the population of Beslan belongs to Osetine Muslim ethnic group, and this ethnic group is a part of Indo-Iranian People. As well as there are several Turkic Muslim ethnic groups and Chechenian and Ingush ethnic groups.
Caucauses is like a cake with many ethnic groups including christhian origin Georgians, Armenians and Muslim origin Azeris, Chechenians, Osetins, etc.

Mr. Aslan Maskhadov, President of Chechnya, says he is defending faith and Islam because this is his duty to protect people of Chechnya. And this is Mr. Maskhadov, a former officer, who like many soviet officers taught young boys how better is, I may recite, ìto eliminate these animalsî in Afghanistan.
He says people of Chechnya gave him authority to build an independent Islamic Republic. And this is Mr. Maskhadov who never prayed and never followed the faith. This is the same Mr. Maskhadov who ordered to shoot captives in Kandagar and Herat. The founder of Chechenian Republic, former Soviet general Mr. Djokhar Dudayev, was the first general who used the practice of total air bombing of Afghan towns and villages.
Mr. Maskhadov calls all Islamic world to defend Muslims in Chechnya. And this is Mr. Maskhadov who used so called ìIslamic fightersî from Jordan and Saudy Arabia to terrorize its own people. This is the same Mr. Maskhadov who three years ago ordered to attack town Kizlar populated by Avars, another huge muslim ethnic group. Finally, this is again Mr. Maskhadov who ordered to take Muslim children in Beslan and use them for ìdefending of Islamî.
People like so called ìamir Khotabî from Jordan who couldnÃt find job in his own country and came to North Caucauses ìto defend faithî. I donÃt really believe Mr. Khotab knew what faith is about and what Islam means. And this is Mr. Khotab who killed people and pictured them in order to receive financial support from Al-Qaida. Local Muslim ethnic groups who really struggle against Russian rule donÃt accept ìIslamic fightersî and several years ago a detachment consisted of Arabs was surrended and eliminated in these mountains by Muslim militants.
Mr. Vladimir Putin, President of Russian Federation, says Russia is moving toward a democratic form of governance. And this is Mr. Putin who was a KGB officer and worked in Germany serving the purposes of Communist government.
After the tragedy in Beslan he said, ìIt was impossible to save Soviet Union because this great country couldnÃt meet the requirements of time. Now we have the last chance to survive and to save our country and our culture. The name of this country is Russian Federation and nobody, from abroad or inside, can destroy our homelandî. And this is the same Mr. Putin who ordered to attack Chechen militants in the school though he knew children were inside.
IÃd like to ask Mr. Putin when he is talking about democracy why he doesnÃt care of everybody regadless of his or her ethnic or religious backgrounds. It doesnÃt matter you are a Christian Armenian or a Muslim Azeri you are ìa black Caucausianî, and when you walk in Moscow anyone may approach you and just split into your face. And you are silent because you are from Caucauses and neither a government board or an organization can defend your rights.
Mr. Aslan Maskhadov, a former Soviet officer in Afghanistan, and Mr. Vladimir Putin, a former KGB agent in GermanyÖ They rule people and use the words like ìfaithî, ìdemocracyî, ìfreedomî in order to achieve own purposes regardless of methods being used. This is Politics and this is like Mr. George W. Bush does use the war in Iraq in order to be reelected for second term.
In conclusion IÃd like to list the ethnic groups of Caucases, and youÃll see the diversity, which exists around here.
1.Georgians (appr. 6 mln., Orthodox Christians, South Caucausians)
2.Armenians (appr. 4 mln., Independent Christian Church, Indo-Arians)
3.Abkhazs (appr. 300.000, Orthodox Christians, North Caucausians)
4.Azerbaijanis (appr. 8 mln., + for about 19 mln. in Iran, Shia Muslims, Turkic)
5.Kurds (appr. 500.000, + for about 15 mln. in Iran, Turkey and Iraq, Suni Muslims, Iranians)
6.Chechenians (appr. 2 mln., Suni Muslims, North Caucausians)
7.Osetins (appr. 1,2 mln., 25 % Orthodox Christians, mostly in South or Georgian Osetia; 75 % Suni Muslims, mostly in North or Russian Osetia, Indo-Iranians)
8.Avars (appr. 800.000, Suni Muslims, North Caucausians)
9.Dargins (appr. 400.000, Suni Muslims, North Caucausians)
10.Lezgins (appr. 400.000, Suni Muslims, North Caucausians)
11.Balkars (including Karachaevs, appr. 400.000, Suni Muslims, Turkic)
12.Cherkes (including Kabards, appr. 300.000, Suni Muslims, North Caucausians)
13.Kalmiks (appr. 1 mln., Buddists, Mongol)
This is just a short list.
