Students Murray Birt, Jacqui Thompson, and Nicole Walters attempted to give University of Calgary President Dr. Harvey Weingarten quite a jolt on Tue., Oct. 19. They had planned to present him with a certificate representing three years worth of solar energy for his desktop computer. Unfortunately, Weingarten was in China at the time, so U of C Associate Vice-President of Student Affairs Dr. Peggy Patterson accepted the certificate on behalf of Weingarten.
"It's a very important initiative, and I'm sure Dr. Weingarten would be in favour of it," she said.
Similar certificates were to be presented to university presidents across the country in an effort to convince universities to build sustainable environmental practices and lead society to become more environmentally and energy conscious.
