Members of the University of Calgary Ecoclub are challenging the Students' Union to go green.
With plans to bring their concerns to the Students' Legislative Council, the Ecoclub will challenge the SU to create a student sustainability office and improve recycling on campus.
"A sustainability office would coordinate projects that bring renewable energy to campus, educate students, work towards composting and measure the overall sustainability of the U of C campus," a letter from the Ecoclub stated. "Our campus is powered by dirty energy sources. Creating a way for student volunteers to plug into longer term improvements is necessary if our university doesn't want to be left behind."
Students looking to support the Ecoclub's initiative at this week's SLC can go to Council Chambers at the west end of MacEwan Student Center at 6:30 p.m., Tue., Jan. 25.
The SU was unavailable for comment before press time.
