University of Calgary Dinos womens basketball team member Jessica Foltinek wowed the home crowds this past weekend with two stellar performances. The underdog Dinos brought both of Canada's fourth-ranked teams to their knees Nov. 28-29, defeating the University of Winnipeg Wesmen and the University of Manitoba Bisons. For her substantial contributions to this weekend's victories, Foltinek earned herself the coveted title of Canadian Interuniversity Sport Female Athlete of the Week.
In Friday's game against the Wesmen, Foltinek led the Dinos to an 82-77 win with 20 points. She added 17 rebounds, six assists, three steals, three blocks, and Player of the Game honours for good measure.
On Saturday night, Foltinek excelled again, putting 19 points towards the Dinos 69-63 victory over the Bisons. She also provided 12 rebounds, four blocks, two assists, and two steals in her second consecutive night of domination over some of Canada's best teams.
After these two additions to her already successful season as a post player for the Dinos, Foltinek has established herself as a powerful threat in Canada West basketball.
Foltinek, a third-year student, is at or near the top in many Canada West stats categories with an average of 14.6 points, 10.1 rebounds, 2.8 steals and 2.5 blocks per game in her first eight contests of this year's regular season. She currently leads Canada West in both rebounds and blocks.
Hopefully the rest of this season will see her continue to posting big numbers and helping this young Dinos squad defeat Canada's other great basketball teams.
