Harle's Heros honoured

Last weekend marked the last time a few familiar phrases will be heard over the loudspeaker at the Jack: "Sarah Williams for three!" and even more often, "Leighann Doan for two!" It was the last regular season home game for the Dinos this season and the last game in Calgary for four of the girls. Alison McGinn, Linnae Bee, Sarah Williams and reigning Canadian Intercollegiate Athletics Union Player of the Year Leighann Doan will retire at the end of this season after their five-year collegiate careers.

On Jan. 26 and 27, the rest of the Dinos squad helped to make it a memorable finish for the team as they ousted the University of Saskatchewan in two straight games, 80-54 and 88-57 respectively.

Head Coach Shawne Harle made it clear how much these four players mean to the Dinos organization in a tear-filled post-game dedication.

"The best is yet to come!" Harle began about Williams. "It couldn't be at a better time with playoffs around the corner."

Harle then proceeded to praise Bee.

"Within five minutes of our ID camp, I knew I wanted you."

Harle went on to talk about her only player to start at all five positions, Alison McGinn.

"[Alison is] one of the reasons this program has taken a step. No team is complete without an Alison."

Then came the hard part. How do you talk about the best player to ever put on a lady Dinos uniform? Coach Harle summed up Doan's career nicely when she said, "[Leighann] realized that dreaming was not enough."
