For many, summer is a time to experiment. Some grow beards. Some shave their heads or dye their hair. Some go on vacations to strange places. All of these experiments ultimately reveal lessons to be learned. In Calgary, summer is a time for municipal government to experiment, this time revealing lessons regarding urban culture.

The University of Calgary Dinos men's volleyball team managed to take bronze at the 21st Annual Husky Dino Cup Oct. 25-27.

The tournament, hosted at the Jack Simpson Gym, featured four men's teams including the Dinos, the University of Alberta Golden Bears, the Stanford University Cardinal and the University of the Pacific Tigers over the three-day event.

The University of Calgary Dinos (4-6) snatched a road trip split with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies (8-2) last weekend, trouncing the Dogs 84-81 Sat., Dec. 2, after being bit by the beasts the night before in an 81-69 loss.

The Dinos women's soccer team continued to steadily improve, pulling off another tie and a victory, advancing their record to 5-2-4 Oct. 15-16.

The battle of Alberta kicked off the weekend, supplying fans with all the name-calling, cat-fighting and general animosity one would expect in a game between these cross-province rivals. Both teams played a motivated game--many of the ladies have been competing against each other for years, not to mention the season's earlier tie.

With such a large roster, the Dinos football team takes a hit every year, losing its veterans as they move on to bigger things. This year seven men are at the point of no return. Jesse Butterfield, Mitch Hoschka, Justin MacCallum, Jeff Montgomery, Damony Simmonds, Jeff Williams and Dan Zubkowski

While this year's Dinos football squad had a good run, help for next year is on the way. Four Calgary-area high schoolers have confirmed their attendance to our prestigious institution in Fall 2005. They will hopefully pick up where graduating players left off.
