Alberta Theatre Projects recently celebrated its 40th year on May 28, with an evening of staged readings and festivities at their home in the Martha Cohen Theatre in the Epcor Centre for the Performing Arts — a theatre that was designed for ATP when the Centre for the Performing Arts was constructed in 1985. The Martha Cohen Theatre is a big move from where the company began 40 years ago at the Canmore Opera House in Heritage Park, the log cabin that seated an audience of 198 people.

Dear baby boomers,

You have been writing a lot about us Millenials lately. You’ve been publishing plenty of articles about how lazy and entitled we are in Time, The Globe and Mail, MacLean’s and other publications. But, for your sake, please give us a break.

Millenials are people born in either the 1980s or 1990s. We are the children of you baby boomers — a clan of information-age natives who grew up with unparalleled wealth and comfort compared to previous generations.

The cost of post-secondary education in Canada is constantly rising. Along with tuition and other fees, students must buy textbooks, which can cost hundreds of dollars each semester.

Textbook publishing is a big business. What students may not realize is how professors interact with large publishing firms to determine which textbooks to use. Do not vote if you do not know what you are voting for. With the University of Calgary’s Students’ Union elections just around the corner, one of the issues candidates hope to address is voter apathy. It is difficult to make people care about something they do not care about without incentive, which the SU doesn’t provide. The long-term benefits of a successful SU administration are not apparent to students.
