The Centre for Response-Based Practice out of Duncan B.C. and the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter, along with the City University of Seattle masters and counseling program are presenting a three-day conference at the University of Calgary on May 29–31. The conference, called In Dignity, will address domestic violence and will talk about how people respond to and resist violence. This conference is the first one to present ideas about response-based practice in Calgary.

Enrolment will be reduced at the University of Calgary as the faculties of arts, nursing and medicine will accept fewer students in the upcoming year. Provost and vice-president academic Dru Marshall announced the reductions at a budget meeting held in the MacEwan Hall Ballroom where plans to deal with the recent provincial post-secondary budget cuts were discussed. 


The University of Calgary Dinos football program is continuing to reap the rewards of another Hardy Cup championship season, and this time it’s not just the Canadian Football League that’s taking notice.


A recent study at the University of Calgary has found that university students are losing their ability to read. One of the first signs of this decrease is an inability to understand satire. The lead researcher, Dr. Cindy Whitehorn, said that although this decrease is sad, it really comes as no surprise. 


The dinosaurs may be extinct, but the University of Calgary has ensured that the Dinos keep on evolving by officially unveiling their new logo to students on Wednesday, April 3 at the MacEwan Student Centre South Courtyard.


The Dinos have changed their logo several times throughout their over 40 year history as a university. The U of C introduced their first dinosaur logo in 1964 and has updated it four times since then. When the Jack Simpson Gym floor was installed, the logo was the rotund dinosaur from the 1980s. 


Domestic violence is a difficult topic — it is painful, intimate and terrifying, and due to this it is often a topic that is left in the shadows. Victims may not know how to escape these situations, or know that escape is even possible. With their performance Ghosts of Violence, the Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada hopes to educate young audiences about the realities of domestic violence, as well as let victims know that they are not alone.

The University of Calgary unveiled its new International Strategy on March 25, 2013, with goals of increasing the U of C’s international prestige. The strategy is part of the 
U of C’s Eyes High strategic goal of becoming a top five Canadian research university by 2016.


While the Calgary Flames have plenty of quality prospects in North America, their most intriguing prospects reside on the other side of the pond. That doesn’t necessarily mean that the Flames have a lot of NHL-ready talent outside the continent — or even that they have high-level developmental talent — but they do have three guys who are putting up good numbers.
