  Credit card surcharges dropped in MacHallPDF files may take a moment to load

Surcharges on credit card purchases in MacEwan Student Centre are no more. The extra costs for purchases made with Visa or Mastercard ended on Friday, June 7, after the Students’ Union learned that these charges were being used by several MSC vendors, violating the contracts the businesses have with their credit card providers.

The West Campus Development Trust has created a master plan to completely develop the roughly 8.6 million square feet of land west of the University of Calgary’s main campus into a “complete and vibrant 
community.” 


The WCDT is an independent organization working with the 
U of C to develop the land.

The excitement is palpable as the University of Calgary gears up for its second annual Sexual and Gender Wellness Week from Feb. 11–15. A carnival, seminars, panel discussion and other events will be held in MacEwan Student Centre throughout the week to educate students about healthy sexuality.

  New clubs space gets rid of private officesPDF files may take a moment to load

With its opening scheduled for Sept. 1, the current renovations of the clubs space in the MacEwan Student Centre will create big changes for campus clubs — more specifically, to their offices.


Prior to the renovations, clubs used private offices that were assigned by the Students’ Union. Once construction at The Hive is completed, clubs will no longer have these private offices, as the new space will be transformed into open, common areas.

  Prime Box Office closed due to Ticketfly buyoutPDF files may take a moment to load

The online ticketing company Ticketfly has acquired Prime Box Office, leading to the closure of PBO in MacEwan Student Centre. All of PBO’s services — including ticket sales to events happening in Calgary — have been transferred online and are now only accessible on the Ticketfly website. 


PBO president Greg Stephenson has joined Ticketfly as the director of sales for western Canada.

  Food trucks return to campus for the summerPDF files may take a moment to load

Hungry? Starting May 31, food trucks will return to the University of Calgary campus, bringing an eclectic mix of meals for hungry students and staff outside the MacEwan Student Centre. These diners on wheels first appeared in Calgary in 2011 following a campaign targeted at city officials by YYC Food Trucks creator James Boettcher. 


A long-time restaurant owner, Boettcher first took interest in creating food trucks when he was looking to expand his gelato business outside his shop.

It’s all yours to explore at the University of Calgary’s semi-annual Clubs Week, which showcases over 150 U of C clubs from Jan. 14–18 in MacEwan Student Centre.

  Holiday hampers help campus communityPDF files may take a moment to load

The University of Calgary Campus Food Bank can act as a safety net for those in need at the U of C. During the holiday season, the CFB will be distributing special food hampers to those who struggle to afford a holiday meal. 


According to CFB co-coordinator and third-year biology student Gayathri Wewala, the hamper program is an exciting addition to the regular services that the CFB has to offer.

  Give and let livePDF files may take a moment to load

Canadian Blood Services tested students’ blood as part of a ‘What’s Your Type?’ clinic in MacEwan Student Centre on September 17. 


The free service gave University of Calgary students a chance to discover their blood type and receive information about donating blood.


Blood is in high demand and Canadian Blood Services will be hosting blood donation sessions at the U of C over the next year.
